Mike Grundmann, Redactor*

*Editor. Specifically, a copy editor at the Los Angeles Times. He has 20 years of full time newspaper editing and reporting experience and has won four editing awards. His freelance articles have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Orange County Register, Philadelphia Daily News, Sacramento Bee, Stockton (Calif.) Record, Washington (D.C.) Business Journal, Out West and International Documentary. He has also taught journalism at Chapman University and video production at Temple University.

Copy editors are the last line of defense against problems in every news story, from typos to libel. For dessert, they get to write all the headlines. Here’s the one  he’s proudest of:

Grundmann grew up in an Air Force family. Chronologically, he has lived in Montgomery, Ala.; Washington D.C.; Wiesbaden, Germany; Providence, R.I.; Washington D.C.; London; Austin, Tex.; Tucson; Phoenix; San Francisco; Carson City, Nev.; Sacramento; Philadelphia; and Los Angeles/Orange County. He has no idea where home is.

He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from San Francisco State University and an MFA in Film Production (documentary emphasis) from Temple University. He is currently Assistant Professor in the School of Media Arts and Design at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia.
